Werewolves, Vampires, and Demons! oh my!! « Result #2 on Nov 25, 2008, 3:02am »
I'm sorry that there's not much images when I find that sketchbook that has a bunch I'll totally put them in.
This came from Hope's very good question "What made you decide on vampires and werewolves?" and to have such characters is an odd things for me (well except werewolves). There were a few things that inspired me to write about these supernatural beings. The first one was a webcomic called "Demonology 101" (you can find it at http://faith.rydia.net (there's no www on her address)) It was this comic that first got me into the demon and vampire thing. Below you can see how my original first page was based somewhat off of hers.
Another inspiration that hit at the same time was my very good friend Sarah Sawyer (you can find her webcomic "The Gods' Pack" at www.godspack.com ) let me read a vampire story she had written. I loved it, even tho I had really never been into vampire stories before (I really think she ought to publish it, it's fantastic). Those characters, and the sort of world that they were in was a new one to me and really very interesting (even if blood does make me queasy). I got into a little vampire/demon/supernatural creatures thing although it would actually be years later until I got to see the first 3 seasons of Buffy (I think I was watching Buffy after EG actually started).
I had already been doing stories with werewolves (I love the buggers) but they were in a much more fantasy setting, you know, faries, elves, dragons, witches and wizards all in magical forests with castles. I quickly learned that traditionally werewolves and vampires do not get along, thus really making me want to create a strong friendship between a werewolf and a vampire.
But I still didn't have a comic.
One day, as I was reflecting on life, I realized that I had a best friend who was very much like a werewolf, an old friend from my past who always reminded me of a demon, and a boyfriend who said he was a vampire (I think he was more like a werewolf who was surrounded by so many vampire like people that he was sorely confused). Reflecting more on it I realized that 99% of my friends identified themselves as being like some particular supernatural being. I identified as human, that was all I wanted to be and all I felt I was and it seemed silly to me that I, a simple human, would attract so many who identified as not. thus Ann, the 'non human's human' came to be. She was the human who always attracted those who were not human.
And this gave me my idea, I would write a comic that was in the style of the dark and supernatural comics but would be funny and silly, I would try and take it over the top and it would be just ridiculous. But I wasn't able to find many more than Demonology 101 at the time. Not wanting to base it after only one I took a break from it.
Part of the story line would consist of her wanting to find a human boy to date, not a supernatural being. Stan (Frank's original name) was supposed to originally be all about her but she wouldn't date him because she just wanted a human boy. Alas she would never find one.
Time went on and the comic changed a bit. As the Original Cast Thread shows the characters changed too. Along came Chad, another human. Now I had 2 humans in my comic and I didn't want that. I put it aside again.
Ann became a mage named Alex because I didn't want more than one human and Chad was too good as he was to change. I also wanted to try and start making Alex less like me and more like just another character.
When starting Everything Goes I no longer intended to make jest of supernatural comics. This time I wanted to take the characters that I had only one story for and stick them in an apartment together. I wanted to be able to make any joke I wanted to about the oddly assorted friends, while have a story line to go along with them. The comic that inspired me this time was Dominic Deegan Orical for hire ( www.dominic-deegan.com ).
So yeah, I hope that answer your question if not or if it brought up a new one do ask again ^_^

The Original Cast, the original comic « Result #3 on Nov 18, 2008, 3:28am »
From Left to right, Ted (Darrick), Stan (Frank), Catrina (Catrina), Ann (Alex)
a question I got from Clover on my guest book is "What made you decide to chance the way the characters look?" So I will now answer that very good question right here.
The very simple answer: I lost the original pictures and had to re-design them.
The honest answer: Darrick (then Ted) was actually based after my boyfriend at the time and quite honestly I ended up thinking that Ted was a very lame vampire. I wanted someone 'cooler' who could still be just as emo and just as upset about being 'cliche.' Darrick then went thru a re-haul (seen below) With a change in design came a change in name. Then I lost this drawing, but by that time I had drawn Darrick a few times and remembered that he had pointy fringe and a pony tail. his new design he was supposed to be 6'2" he went back to short when I realized that all my male characters were over 6 feet tall.
Frank changed because I decided that all my werewolves would have wavy brown hair and tan skin. Also I wanted a friendly look about Frank. His name changed because I couldn't remember his original name (tho I like the change)
Catrina was actually never meant to change until one of my first readers told me that her cat design looked Egyptian. I hadn't even thought of that but it gave me a whole back story for her so I took her design to ancient Egypt and for the first time Catrina changed. I was also for this because it gave me the chance to give her a different build for her body than the one Alex has. With a history Catrina has also gotten a good deal older than she used to be
For Ann to Alex, well her name has always been Ann... that is until I drew Alex and Catrina where Alex is supposed to be dressed as a boy (picture below) and then I knew that she was running away and that she needed a boy/girl name to be used to her advantage. Originally it was going to be short for "Alexandra" a name I always wanted as a little girl, but then one of my early readers (again ^_^ goodness I'm so easily influenced XD) asked if her name was short for Alexa and I liked it, so I went that way. Back in 2004 tho Ann was a human, not a mage. I made this change because I needed a mage and didn't want to add another character to my growing list. Plus I like only having one main human character, and that's Chad XD. She really hasn't changed with her looks (just chop off her hair really) and no more freckles
So what's stayed the same? Well, Catrina's name, also Darrick still thinks he's cliche and has a werewolf for a best friend. Catrina and Alex are still very close friends if not best friends. Darrick, Frank, and Catrina are all the same supernatural beings that they were to begin with, 99% of the story's characters are NOT human. There's still a distant relationship between Alex and her father (Ann's father had abandoned her and her mother), and they all fight against evil vampires. Oh also Alex has boxes in her room.
please enjoy the first few pages of that original comic I do have more just not on my computer.
